Is the AU changing their minds over guns?

OK I considered not sharing this because it comes to us from the country of Australia, and most of our readers are in the US. Additionally, we all know how anti-gun the AU is.

But are they really?

In some place called Toowoomba, a gun enthusiast decided to brave it all, swim through the seas of red tape, and open a gun range. And guess what, they can't get enough of it. They are apparently lining up to take their turn at a Glock. Or a Smith. Or anything that goes boom. Now I have a friend from the AU that thinks we Americans are all gun toting John Wayne types that love to blow crap up. No one - according to him - has any desire to own any other weapon other than a shotgun for hunting.

Pistol shooters just don't exist. At least according to him. Never-the-less, they are lining up to take a turn slinging lead from one.

What I find hilarious is some of the requirements the shop owner had to go through just to get this done, but hat's off for making it happen anyway and not giving up. In the video, you will see that the front of the weapon has to be tethered to the bench by a 4 way harness. Additionally, each shooter must have a personal safety instructor standing over their shoulder. Each one. Seriously. Wow.

Now part of me just wants to call them a bunch of wusses. But the other part of me is celebrating for the huge leap forward in educating the public and introducing them to the joys of shooting that this man is doing. Nearly 20 years have passed since they passed their stringent gun control laws. True, the crime rate now is the same as it was then. True they can attest to no success because of their over reaching law. But now, 20 years later, they are beginning to reach forward to the reality that guns in themselves, are not bad. And, they can be a whole lot of fun.

Let's hope this place continues to be successful. Because we all know how capitalism works. Others will see his success, try to take part themselves and open up their own ranges elsewhere, and before you know it, things will really begin to change in perception for the AU.
